After a couple of months overseas, we landed straight back into the full rhythm of farm life setting up a temporary wash bay, dividing benches and storage area while we wait for our new Flower Farm House to be built.

July and August were big digging months: tubers lifted, washed, labelled, tucked away… and then, in late August, the first shoots appeared. Coorabell Moonglow leading the way.

We commenced our Wishlist offers and watched the website buzz with an open sale weekend.

September has been all about packing and posting tubers, fertilising beds and getting ready for early‑October planting.

We are excited to welcome back the team from JCL Southern Highlands who are working on new projects we can’t wait to share as they unfold.

Spoiler Alert : another sale will be scheduled for October.

Tuber orders will continue to be posted throughout the month and so far the wonderful feedback has absolutely made our days.

As many of you know our Australian natives planted a couple of seasons ago, are now really settling in. This year we are seeing more flowers than ever. Beautiful Waratahs and Proteas are starting to emerge, so this weekend was very timely.

Our flower farm team spent yesterday at East Coast Wild Flowers, Craig Scott’s remarkable native flower property, surrounded by flannel flowers, paper daisies and Australian Natives.

The fundraiser supported the Barbara May Foundation, whose work provides safe childbirth, maternal healthcare and dignity for women in remote communities. A cause that matters deeply and one we were proud to stand behind.

And the food! We can’t forget to mention Butchers Daughter, who created the most beautiful spread. Thoughtful, seasonal dishes with generous portions, bright flavours and the kind of catering that feels special.

The Hidden Reason Dahlias Need Support

Dahlias look strong, but their stems tell a different story. They’re hollow, designed to move water efficiently, not to carry the weight of large, rain heavy blooms. This combination of fast growth, hollow stems and heavy flowers, makes early support essential.

Dahlias can grow several centimetres a day once they wake. They stretch quickly, branch heavily and produce blooms that fill with dew and rain. Without guidance, stems lean, twist, or snap.
This is why support isn’t optional. It’s protective.

What Early Support Actually Does
• Prevents snapped stems as hollow stems can’t withstand sudden wind or weight
• Improves airflow as upright plants stay drier, reducing disease pressure
• Guides growth as stems rise evenly instead of crowding or twisting
• Strengthens flowering as supported stems hold blooms at eye level
• Protects the season as storms become less damaging when structure is already in place
Support isn’t just about holding the plant up. It’s about shaping a healthier, more resilient plant from the beginning.

• Both: aim for upright stems, clear airflow, and space for blooms to open fully

The method doesn’t matter as much as the timing. Early is everything.
