Before the dahlias even think about flowering, the soil needs to be alive, loose, and nutrient‑rich. At The Dahlia Patch, we prepare our beds with gypsum, blood & bone, cow manure, lime, Rooster Booster, and dry autumn leaves — each chosen to support the way dahlias grow.

• Gypsum — opens up heavy soil so dahlia roots can spread deeply and breathe.
• Blood & bone — slow‑release nutrition for strong stems and abundant blooms.
• Cow manure — boosts microbial life, helping dahlias access nutrients quickly.
• Lime — balances pH so dahlias can absorb potassium and phosphorus efficiently.
• Rooster Booster — adds organic energy for continuous bud production.
• Dry autumn leaves — break down into rich humus, improving moisture retention and feeding soil biology.

Following the completion of all Wishlist Offers, every remaining tuber is now online for this weekends public sale. This is the moment when the field opens to everyone. A short window where gardeners can wander through the varieties and secure the tubers they’ve been hoping to grow.

Tubers are available until sold out and each one is posted only once it has shown a healthy shoot. Quantities are small, varieties are diverse, and every tuber is ready to begin its journey from our farm to yours.

We dropped off fresh sawdust for the donkey nursery today and I found myself standing in one of those quiet, unforgettable moments — a newborn miniature donkey tucked in close to its mum, all softness and new beginnings. Days like this remind me how lucky I am to live and work on land that keeps surprising me.
If you’re visiting the farm for any of our events this season and looking for beautiful things to do in the Highlands, make a day of it. Book a farm tour at Pine Ridge Miniature Donkeys and then wander over to Coffee Culture in Mittagong or Bowral for the most comforting coffee and scones. It’s the perfect way to round out a day among flowers, animals and good people.

And yes, we still have fresh sawdust for sale for your tuber storage 👍
