Ever wondered about mushrooms growing in your soil or compost?

These mushrooms popping up in our soil and mulch are actually a sign of a healthy, thriving ecosystem.

These fungi are busy breaking down dead plants and mulch into nutrient-rich goodness.

Thanks to mushrooms, essential nutrients are cycled back into the soil, ensuring our flowers get the best support they need.

Mycorrhizal fungi enhance soil drainage and water retention, creating the perfect home for our blossoming beauties!

If you are seeing mushrooms then it is good news! They indicate a lively population of beneficial microbes working hard beneath our feet.

So, while they may not be everyone’s aesthetic, mushrooms are nature’s way of nurturing our gardens!

Can we eat them? Let’s be safe and say ABSOLUTLY NOT. We won’t be serving up mushroom soup anytime soon 🥴😂

It’s that magical time of the year again. We’re out gathering seeds from our lovely Dahlia heads. The recent rain has been a mixed blessing with some seed heads unfortunately rotting, but we’re determined to find the perfect ones for you, when you are booking into workshops or making tuber orders. The hunt is on.

The pictures show you what I am picking to get the perfect seeds, with the last seed head photo showing an immature seed head that needs to dry out. I avoid picking these unless I cut the stems short and stand them in glasses to dry when I know that more rain is coming.
The final photo shows you what the seeds look like.

Well that’s a wrap from the Dahlia Patch Flower

Well that’s a wrap from the Dahlia Patch Flower Farm for this season. We closed last night on our final book club and those attending were lucky enough to take home all of the last beautiful dahlias.
We thank everyone for their wonderful support this year from those joining us to harvest and/or attending workshops - especially those that joined us on multiple occasions. To those attending Bookclub which has been such a fabulous informal and wonderful social event. Gosh we have had fun. We thank our florists - especially Blooms for all of the orders We have thoroughly enjoyed providing our beautiful Dahlias to you.

We are off on holidays over Winter but will be returning for another fabulous season from December. Saturday Harvesting was so popular and many people have already asked to book special dates, so the events are up on the website to book into early.
We hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable few months over Autumn and Winter and we look forward to seeing you all again very soon🌺🌸❤️

Creating a Wishlist for the new season? You can’t go past this beautiful Elma Elizabeth. She is huge.

Beautiful Elma Elizabeth, planted late in the season has suddenly started blooming like mad. So lovely to see this huge dahlia especially when all of the other Dahlias are now going to seed.
