A couple of little visitors at The Dahlia Patch th A couple of little visitors at The Dahlia Patch this morning. They have taken quite a liking to our granola, crunching away like they’ve joined us for breakfast.

The tuber shed, however, is strictly off limits. Those beautiful shooting dahlias would be far too tempting for curious King Parrots.

Farm life always brings surprises…

Brace yourselves: our tubers are highly addictive.
Not “cute hobby” addictive, more like “I’ve rearranged my entire garden and possibly my personality” addictive.

Expect symptoms such as:
• Sudden shrieking when you spot a variety you weren’t going to buy
• Convincing yourself you have space. (You do not. You will make space.)

If you’ve ever said “I’ll behave this season,” that’s adorable.
We admire your confidence.
We also know you’ll be at checkout at 7:01pm.

Wishlist growers have already had their warm‑up lap — now it’s everyone’s turn to tumble into the glorious chaos.

Set your alarms.
Hydrate.
Stretch your scrolling thumb.
And prepare to adopt more tubers than any reasonable human should

We are right there with you having purchased another 60-80 different varieties this season - our rationale - it’s purely for your harvesting joy this season 🤷‍♀️
Dahlia Tuber Sale — Tuesday 13 October, 7pm A rem Dahlia Tuber Sale — Tuesday 13 October, 7pm

A reminder that our tuber sale opens at 7pm next Tuesday.
While some favourites were fully allocated during our Wishlist sales, we’re delighted that 136 varieties will be available — a colourful mix of classics, treasures, and a few quiet surprises from the patch.

If you’ve been dreaming up next season’s palette, this is your moment to wander through the Tuber Page to see what calls out to you.

All tubers are shooting and will be posted within 24 hrs of purchase.

The sale opens at 7pm and runs until sold out.

Warmest wishes from The Dahlia Patch as we step into another beautiful season of growing.
After a couple of months overseas, we landed strai After a couple of months overseas, we landed straight back into the full rhythm of farm life setting up a temporary wash bay, dividing benches and storage area while we wait for our new Flower Farm House to be built.

July and August were big digging months: tubers lifted, washed, labelled, tucked away… and then, in late August, the first shoots appeared. Coorabell Moonglow leading the way.

We commenced our Wishlist offers and watched the website buzz with an open sale weekend.

September has been all about packing and posting tubers, fertilising beds and getting ready for early‑October planting.

We are excited to welcome back the team from JCL Southern Highlands who are working on new projects we can’t wait to share as they unfold.

Spoiler Alert : another sale will be scheduled for October.

Tuber orders will continue to be posted throughout the month and so far the wonderful feedback has absolutely made our days.
As many of you know our Australian natives planted As many of you know our Australian natives planted a couple of seasons ago, are now really settling in. This year we are seeing more flowers than ever. Beautiful Waratahs and Proteas are starting to emerge, so this weekend was very timely.

Our flower farm team spent yesterday at East Coast Wild Flowers, Craig Scott’s remarkable native flower property, surrounded by flannel flowers, paper daisies and Australian Natives.

The fundraiser supported the Barbara May Foundation, whose work provides safe childbirth, maternal healthcare and dignity for women in remote communities. A cause that matters deeply and one we were proud to stand behind.

And the food! We can’t forget to mention Butchers Daughter, who created the most beautiful spread. Thoughtful, seasonal dishes with generous portions, bright flavours and the kind of catering that feels special.
Unicorn dahlias aren’t just flowers they’re the ra Unicorn dahlias aren’t just flowers they’re the rare, hard to find varieties that make growers stop mid stride and whisper oh my goodness.
They’re the cultivars that appear once in a blue moon, the forms that refuse to be ordinary. They’re the dahlias people hunt for and collectors dream about.

What makes a dahlia a unicorn?

• Scarcity — limited tuber availability, small breeder releases, or varieties that multiply slowly.
• Unusual colour patterns — smoky blends, watercolour streaks, unexpected gradients.
• Unpredictable genetics — octoploid magic that produces one of a kind seedlings.
• High demand — the varieties everyone wants but few can grow.
• Cultivar mystique — names whispered in grower groups, sold out in minutes, and adored for their personality.

Unicorn dahlias remind us why this flower is endlessly fascinating: they’re rare, they’re magical, and they keep the dahlia world dreaming.

Tell me which unicorn variety is on your wish list this season?
